Carers Listening Event

Triangle of Care kitemark 1 star

Salford Drug and Alcohol Service run by Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMW) are hosting a Carers Listening Event on Wednesday 5th March, 10am-12pm at Eccles Gateway in Salford.

The event for carers offers help and advice from a wide range of professionals who wish to help on topics like carers assessments and carers budgets.

The event caters to those who may be a relative or friend of someone with substance misuse problems or who may be stressed or have lack of knowledge about services available for their loved one.

The event gives carers the chance to see what services are on offer in Salford to help them and those close to them with substance misuse issues. Carers will also have the chance to meet other carers and have access to free alternative therapy sessions.

Salford Drug and Alcohol Service has recently changed the way they work with service users to support them in their recovery. The event gives carers a chance to hear about these changes and give their views on the service.

Carol Marsh, Service Manager at the Salford Drug and Alcohol Service said:

“A carer can be described as someone of any age who provides unpaid practical or emotional support to someone with a disability, addiction or illness. The person may be a relative, partner, friend or neighbour. This reflects the individual and variable nature of caring roles and in particular when caring for people with mental health, alcohol or drug problems, where support may not always be visible and may vary on a day to day basis.

“Providing care can have a big impact on you – physically, emotionally, and financially and so we hope this event can enlighten people on the services we offer to support carers whilst providing a sociable, relaxing environment for people to enjoy.”

GMW launched a carers strategy in 2011 which provides a framework to take forward and action national policy and legislation, and sets out a vision for engaging, involving and supporting carers. The Trust also employs dedicated Carer Support Workers to support carers both practically and emotionally and run carer awareness training for staff. GMW also have a Trust-wide Carers’ Lead.

The Carers Listening Event will take place on Wednesday 5th March 10am-12pm at Eccles Gateway, 28 Barton Lane, Eccles, Salford, M30 9TU. Directions can be found on our events calendar. Refreshments will be available.
