Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services – North West (FCAMHS NW)

We are a mental health service who specialise in providing expert advice and consultation to agencies working with children and young people with complex presentations and display high risk behaviour. These young people are more likely to come into contact with criminal justice services or be admitted to secure settings.

Through comprehensive consultation and assessment we aim to support referring agencies to understand a young person’s difficulties and risk, providing recommendations for future intervention and risk management.

Referral criteria

Our referral criteria include children and young people up to the age of 18, where there are both:

A) Concerns regarding their mental health or neurodevelopment such as autism or learning disability.

and

B) Concerns about the child or young person showing behaviour that is a risk to others and/or offending behaviour.

We accept referrals from a range of agencies including but not limited to:

  • Mental health services
  • Children’s Services
  • Schools and other education provisions
  • Youth Justice Services
  • Residential placements
  • Third sector organisations
