Get involved in research and innovation
Research & Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at GMMH. We want to make sure that our staff, service users and carers have every opportunity to take part in and benefit from research and innovation.
Last year, 1,650 service users, carers and colleagues took part in over 150 studies at GMMH (2022/23). None of this is possible without your involvement!
Research & Innovation is for everyone
Our mission is to ensure that every service user or member of staff, across all of our locations, has the opportunity to participate in and benefit from clinical research and innovation, for better outcomes and improving lives.
Meaningful research and innovation cannot be done in isolation. Whether you have on-the-ground knowledge, lived experience, clinical expertise, or academic skills, we want you to take part in, deliver and help design leading projects. This can be:
- helping researchers design a study via a Patient-Public Involvement (PPI) Group
- taking part in studies and accessing the latest treatments
- learning about and sharing our news and findings, or
- joining our team to start your own research journey.
We want our research to continue to make an impact, and to do this we need to ensure that we are looking at research areas that are important to our service users and communities and gives them every opportunity to get involved in taking part in, choosing topics for and helping design studies at GMMH.

The "Research Effect"
Research-active NHS trusts are proven to benefit from the ‘research effect’ – a research-active Trust creates a huge number of benefits for its service users, staff and communities.
There is evidence that Trusts with high participation in research lead to an improvement in service user outcomes, such as patient mortality, as well as better overall care. It’s also a great way to attract and keep brilliant colleagues when research is included in their post.
