GMMH staff and teams nominated for Recognising Excellence and Achievement Awards 2021

Staff and placement areas within GMMH have been nominated for the The University of Manchester’s Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work’s Recognising Excellence and Achievement Awards by the students of the University of Manchester.

The awards acknowledge students who have excelled academically, acted as ambassadors, student representatives and PASS leaders, and inspired their peers at university, whilst in practice or in activities outside of their programme of study. There are also student nominated awards for lecturers, practice, mentors and PEFs to recognise their contribution as role models and creating inspirational learning experiences.

Due to the unprecedented circumstances of this year however, they have been unable to organise a ceremony for the awards which would usually take place in person. The decision has been made not to go ahead with judging and to instead award every nominee with a certificate of their nomination and achievement because they want to acknowledge everyone who was nominated and celebrate everyone!

Congratulations to everyone nominated!

Irwell Ward, Trafford General Hospital

"The Nursing Team on Irwell Ward are absolutely phenomenal. They have been incredibly supportive and have gone above and beyond to welcome me into their team for the past few months. Nothing is ever too much for them to do for their patients & they practice extremely efficient patient centred care. Their patients are at the forefront of everything that they do. The team support each other through the challenges of nursing on a PICU every day without fail and have been nothing but role models to me for the practitioner that I want to become."

Blake Ward, Wythenshawe Hospital

"Whilst on placement at Blake, I felt supported throughout. Being a PICU Blake is very fast paced and there is always lots going on, the team there are amazing they always support each other and the patients. I think it was the best teamwork I have seen since being on placement. They prioritise their own health with staff wellbeing and debrief sessions which is important in a PICU environment as it can be very challenging at times. I felt part of the team at Blake and I learnt so many new skills whilst there. From all my placements this year they were by far the best!"

Illona Allen, Medlock Ward, Moorside Unit

"Illona was an absolutely amazing supervisor throughout my time at Medlock. She would always make sure to include me in areas/tasks where I would be able to learn and develop my skills when setting the allocations. She consistently offered positive and constructive feedback. It was always very easy to approach Illona and she was always very supportive. She always made sure my supernumerary status was upheld and that everything I did had a learning opportunity attached with it. When asked, she would always let me do tasks if we were both comfortable and confident I was able to do it. Illona also spoke to me about my future aspirations, and offered thoughts and advice. She was one of the key staff at Moorside who made my learning experience exceptional."
