“It is amazing to be a part of someone else’s recovery.”
“I was inspired to choose this role because I wanted to provide women with the care and compassion I wish had been available for me when I was unwell. I am so passionate about helping others to understand and normalising how difficult the perinatal period can be and I think by sharing my story it helps families to see a path to recovery.”
“My role consists of meeting women and their families and collaboratively exploring how peer support could benefit them. Sharing the difficulties I have previously experienced reassures women that they aren’t alone in the way they are feeling. We work together to focus on what recovery could look like for them, using compassionate interventions to build up skills and coping mechanisms for good mental health as a new parent.”
Without a doubt, the best part of the job is seeing women overcome their difficulties and their relationships flourish. It is amazing to be a part of someone else’s recovery.
“Working in a developing service has been challenging, as we have had to change parameters, and be very adaptive in strict timeframes. However, working with so many other professionals that are equally as passionate as myself around perinatal mental health has been incredibly rewarding and I feel privileged to be part of a growing team of amazing people.”
“I also love to contribute to discussions around service development as a previous service user, and help to shape the future of the services for the families we are yet to encounter.”
