GMMH announces appointment of new Director of Corporate Affairs and Risk Management

Paul Howard

A further important permanent appointment has been made to Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust's (GMMH) Executive Team – with Paul Howard joining the Trust as Director of Corporate Affairs and Risk Management.

Paul was the Director of Corporate Affairs at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. A registered paramedic, Paul began his NHS career in 2001 with the then Greater Manchester Ambulance Service, undertaking a range of clinical roles before moving into the corporate governance field.

Since then, Paul has worked in corporate governance roles in both the health and education sectors and in 2014 he was named Company Secretary of the Year in the not-for-profit sector by the Chartered Governance Institute. In the same year, Paul coordinated the development of new national rules on behalf of NHS Providers which allowed votes in elections to FT councils of governors to be cast online or by text message to increase participation and engagement.

Chief Executive, Karen Howell OBE, said:

“One of my priorities when I started at GMMH was to appoint brilliant leaders to the vital roles in the Executive Team – so I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Howard to a new role as Director of Corporate Affairs and Risk Management.”

Paul started as GMMH’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Risk Management on the 1 January 2025.
