Brook Ward
About our service
Brook Ward is a 22 bed adult male only ward that supports people in the acute phases of their mental illness, working closely with community mental health teams, doctors and carers as well as the patients themselves, to promote recovery. The team work closely with patients and carers in developing a collaborative care plan.
Whilst on the ward, every patient receives an occupational therapy assessment. If there are any identified needs, then a goal orientated package of support will be put in place, which is reviewed on a regular basis.
The STR (Support, Time & Recovery) staff support patients in working towards discharge by supporting them to engage in a range of activities, in groups and individually, both in the hospital and in the community. They also advise on community based organisations and activities, to encourage appropriate support on discharge.
The ward has close links with community groups such as BluSci and have weekly visits there to introduce patients to what it has to offer and to support those who require help in developing their confidence. The team also work closely with volunteers who return to the Unit to offer support in providing activities for in patients to engage in, that will enrich their lives on discharge.
Visiting times for Brook Ward are Monday to Friday 4-5pm and 6-8pm. Weekend visiting is 2-5pm and 6-8pm. If these visiting times are not convenient, please ring the ward to arrange a more suitable time.
