GMMH duo make it to finals of NHS Chef of the Year 2024

Kenneth (Kenny) Moth and Karolina Morawiec

Two members of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust’s (GMMH) catering team have been named as finalists in a national NHS cooking competition.

Karolina Morawiec, Food Production Supervisor, and Kenneth (Kenny) Moth, Catering Assistant, are in the running for ‘NHS Chef of the Year’ after succeeding in regional heats held at Trafford College in Manchester. The duo is one of eight finalist teams.

Run annually by NHS England and now in its fourth year, the NHS Chef of the Year competition highlights the best of NHS Catering, chefs’ skills, catering knowledge, and menu engineering.

This is the second time members of our catering team have succeeded in the competition. In 2023, Ryan Corbett and Laila Darlington were named runners-up of the competition and commended by Lisa Goodwin-Allen, Executive Chef of the Michelin-starred Northcote restaurant, for their fantastic efforts. Last year was also the first time a Mental Health Trust had entered the competition.

Michael Jones, Catering Operations Manager, said:

“The Facilities team are extremely proud of Karolina and Kenny qualifying for the next stages of this fantastic national competition.

“All three teams who entered gave a superb effort in representing the Trust in the very competitive heats.

"We are all excited at the possibility of Karolina and Kenny going one step further than Ryan and Laila last year and bringing home the trophy. Good luck Team GMMH!”
