GMMH’s Miriam Avery scoops award for ‘Exceptional Research Delivery Leadership’

The winners of the Greater Manchester Health and Care Research Awards 2022 were announced last week during an evening of celebrations at The Etihad Stadium.
Amongst the winners was Miriam Avery, an NIHR Clinical Doctoral Research Fellow at GMMH, who was named the winner in the ‘Exceptional Research Delivery Leadership’ category. She received the accolade for her work as a Clinical Research Nurse on the Biohaven OCD study, a trial investigating the effectiveness of the medication Troriluzole in the treatment of OCD.
Miriam Avery, NIHR Clinical Doctoral Fellow at GMMH and the University of Manchester, commented:
“I’m thrilled to have received this award for my work on the Biohaven OCD trial. This is an important study as people with OCD often have debilitating symptoms, but research into medication has lagged and there are very few treatment options available today. One of the biggest challenges with this study was that recruitment was not straightforward due to strict inclusion criteria – we worked around this and met our targets which will ultimately help ensure people with OCD get the treatment they need. I have also developed valuable skills I will use in my research career going forward.”
Miriam was nominated by Sarah Leo, Head of Research and Innovation at GMMH. Sarah commented:
“Miriam played a crucial role in leading the team in our ongoing commercial Biohaven OCD trial, overcoming recruitment difficulties, and ultimately ensuring the success of the trial. This award is well deserved, and we are delighted that we continue to have excellent researchers like Miriam work with us at GMMH.”
