Manchester’s Cold Weather Provision

This year, GMMH’s Homeless Services Team are partnering with Barnabus for the Cold Weather Provision. The project was set up to offer support to homeless individuals in Manchester throughout the winter months.

In addition to providing a warm safe space, meals and activities over winter, the Cold Weather Provision also aims to provide with wrap around support for things like addictions, mental health and physical health.

The Manchester Homeless and Mental Health Team support homeless people in Manchester who are struggling with their mental health, and is a key part to the wrap around support provided. This year the team have an onsite presence to provide essential mental health care to people in the hotel and to support the staff involved by offering training and reflective practice.

Yvonne Hope, CEO of Barnabus says: “Manchester’s Cold Weather comprehensive support and accommodation offer for people who are homeless is a first in England. Offering specialist support onsite in a calm environment means that people who have previously struggled to engage with services have the space to create trust. GMMH is integral to that offer and we’re excited to see positive outcomes for people who deserve a safe and secure home.”
