North View: Social Value Delivered
Community work that took place in conjunction with the construction of the new North View inpatient mental health hospital in North Manchester is highlighted in a new document published this week.
‘North View: DAY PM Social Value Delivered’ tells how – beyond the provision of a new hospital - the project has supported local communities in a wide range of areas, from education, employment and skills to wellbeing, community engagement and charity work.
A number of work experience students enjoyed site visits to North View while members of the DAY PM team took part in a number of school visits to talk about a range of subjects including career opportunities.
A new ‘Community Skills Centre’ for North Manchester was also opened up on the North View site by contractors Integrated Health Projects (IHP), the joint venture between VINCI Building and Sir Robert McAlpine, in conjunction with Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), Manchester City Council and the Skills Construction Centre.

The hands-on skills centre supported residents aged 16-24 who are not in employment, education or training (NEETs) to gain new skills and experience for employment and help close the future construction skills gap.
Wellbeing walks and mental health first aider training has also been on the agenda as well as giving support to the annual World Mental Health Day.
In May of this year a snapshot in history was captured by the burial of a time capsule with the contents created by local schools and community organisations and the event attended by project team, healthcare professionals from GMMH and the Leader of Manchester City Council.

There have also been litter picks in Crumpsall Park and at Lakeside Community Café, Boggart Hole Clough. For more details download the document: North View: DAY PM Social Value Delivered (PDF)
