This week, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) advised that that the Edenfield Centre, which provides medium secure adult forensic mental health services, is now in a position where it can be reopened to admissions following the reopening of the Lowry Unit, which provides low secure services, in December 2024.

A further important permanent appointment has been made to Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust's (GMMH) Executive Team – with Paul Howard joining the Trust as Director of Corporate Affairs and Risk Management.

Following the CQC’s inspection of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trusts (GMMH) child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) inpatient services in July 2024, they have confirmed that the overall rating for the service remains Good, with the Caring category remaining Outstanding. 

‘The Southmoor Suite’ is a dedicated space for patients experiencing a mental health crisis who present at the Emergency Department of Wythenshawe hospital.

After working tirelessly over the last two years and commissioning an independent clinical review of the re-engineered service, we are able to report that the Lowry Unit, which provides low secure adult forensic mental health services (AFS), is now in a position where it can be re-opened to admissions. This means that with service user engagement, the first new service user will likely be admitted later this month.

We have been notified of industrial action, by members of Unison and Unite who work in Manchester’s Early Intervention Service, involving three days of strikes due to take place from 07:00 on Tuesday 10 December 2024 until Friday 13 December concluding at 06:59 hours. Staff taking part are also continuing a work to rule.
