Second awards nomination for North View

North View

North View, our new inpatient mental health hospital, has been shortlisted a second time, having been nominated in the Best Specialist / Dementia Care design category at the national Healthcare Design Awards.

North View Project Director and GMMH Associate Director of Capital, Estates and Facilities, Marc Reed, is delighted with the news, following hard on the heels of the new hospital having been shortlisted for the Manchester Chamber of Commerce Building of the Year award.

He said: “It's exciting to hear of this excellent news. We’re confident that North View is already delivering as an outstanding facility that supports recovery for the service users and communities of North Manchester. To receive this nomination is recognition of the hard work and commitment of so many that have been invested in its design, build and operation.”

The Healthcare Design Awards are organised by Nexus Media Group, which also publishes Healthcare Property magazine, and recognise innovation and excellence in the design of health and care facilities.

They aim to celebrate projects that do not just demonstrate good design, but are making a real, positive impact on people’s lives, whether they be patients, staff, residents, or visitors.

North View’s nomination comes amid a record number of entries for the six categories and the challenge of competition from mental health builds across both public and private providers nationwide.

The building, which opened operationally in November 2024, has 150 single end-suite bedrooms over nine single sex wards, including a purpose-built Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, six adult acute wards for female and male adults, one rehabilitation ward, one older adults’ ward and a treatment suite that supports research and innovation studies.

It has been specifically designed to minimise its environmental impact including being the first all-electric mental health facility in the country and adopting several sustainable measures that support the delivery of a ‘Net Zero’ NHS.

The winners of Healthcare Design Awards will be announced at a grand ceremony at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on 13 February with the Manchester Chamber OF Commerce wards awards celebration taking place in early March.
