Office/Home-Based Simple Exercises for NHS Staff & colleagues
It is well known that sitting all day can have an unhealthy impact on the body and mind.
Thanks to the vigour and generosity of Sir Tom Moore, the Research & Innovation Team have been awarded a grant to train NHS staff & colleagues in simple Isometric exercises that can be done at work or home.
Isometric exercise involves a single sustained muscle contraction against an immovable load or resistance. Isometric exercise can be done safely by people of differing ages and physical abilities.
Isometric exercise promotes reductions in resting blood pressure in those with high blood pressure.
As well as improving cardio-metabolic health Isometric exercise can improve cognitive abilities and enhance mood.
You are invited to train in Isometric exercises to strengthen the major muscle groups of the body once per week (45mins), for four weeks (Wednesdays at 12pm, on March 2nd , 9th, 16th & 23rd), via MS Teams.
Isometric exercise can be done at home or in work without the need to wear gym clothes or break into a sweat.
Everybody will be given free of charge, thanks to Sir Tom, an Iso-bow and a book on Isometric exercises.
Training sessions will be recorded for people who cannot make the weekly session time and will be available through MS Teams.
After the 4-week period of learning and doing the exercises, everyone involved will be invited to attend an MS Teams conversation to capture experiences and impact of doing the exercises, which may form the basis for future research.
