Within this role you work with multiple different teams and external agencies. You will be exposed to solicitors, probation officers, legal advisors, judges and more. Each team is different but works together towards ensuring the best care for the service user. Working in this environment, you are exposed to a wide range of experience that you might not find in other healthcare jobs. Gaining knowledge and learning about factors that can impact on individuals’ mental health and their offending behaviour. The service users you support may experience several vulnerabilities and difficulties and have previously found it difficult to navigate services and access the correct support.
Other aspects of this role include:
• Identifying and screening mental vulnerabilities in children and adults in the criminal justice system
• Facilitating assessments in accordance with national service pathways and guidelines
• Sharing relevant information with criminal justice decision makers, to inform charging, sentencing and diversion
• Supporting access to appropriate health and social care for individuals in the criminal justice system
• Contributing to raising the profile and awareness of L&D and helping combat stigma in these settings
Working in this role, there are many opportunities for someone to develop themselves professionally and get involved in shaping the L&D function. You will be offered access to relevant training, a bespoke induction package and have your input in developing specific pathways, for example our neurodiversity and learning disability pathways. The team are dedicated to helping you reach your personal goals too, with excellent line management support and guidance to progress through the team into more senior roles.
Support is readily available through line management and clinical supervision. Peer support is also available, or the duty manager can be accessed in-person or remotely when needed.
